In the lush tropics of the Mount Tamborine Botanical Gardens, a mischievous kookaburra named Kibbie roamed the grounds, his beady eyes always on the lookout for tasty treats. Kibbie had a reputation among the visitors and staff for his audacious antics, and his latest target was a delectable subway tuna roll.
On a sunny afternoon, as families strolled through the gardens, Kibbie perched high on a eucalyptus branch, observing the bustling scene below. His keen eyes spotted a young girl enjoying her subway tuna roll on a bench near the garden's entrance. The savory aroma wafted through the air, teasing his senses. Kibbie knew he couldn't resist such a tempting morsel.
With a sudden swoop, Kibbie glided down from his perch, his wings flapping gracefully. He dive bombed his target, snatched to subway, and flew back to his perch. Startled, the girl shrieked. Her hands now empty, and her lunch was gone.
Unfazed by the commotion, Kibbie ate the tuna roll as bits of cheese and lettuce flew in all directions as it parted ways with the tuna roll. After his meal he chuckled mischievously, his beady eyes twinkling with excitement. He had accomplished his daring feat. Now, all he had to do was find a peaceful spot to rest in the sun, with his full belly.
"Ahoy, there, Kibbie! What have you got stuck on your beak?"
Startled, Kibbie turned his head to find an old, wise owl named Oliver perched on a nearby branch, his eyes gleaming with amusement.
"Caught red-beaked, I see," Oliver continued, his voice a deep rumble. "You've certainly outdone yourself this time, young fellow."
Kibbie tilted his head, his eyes flickering with a mix of guilt and amusement. "Well, Oliver, a kookaburra's gotta do what a kookaburra's gotta do. And a tuna roll was too tempting to resist."
Oliver chuckled and hopped closer. "I understand, my friend. But remember, stealing isn't the only way to enjoy a meal. Perhaps next time, you could rely on your charm to convince the humans to share their treats willingly."
Kibbie pondered Oliver's words, his beak still showing remnant of the pilfered subway tuna roll. He realized that there might be more joy in sharing a meal rather than taking it by force. With a nod of understanding, although he thought it would not be as satisfying, or belly filling.
"Thank you, Oliver," Kibbie said sincerely. "I'll remember your advice. From now on, I'll strive to be a kookaburra that brings smiles instead of surprises."
Oliver beamed with pride, and the two friends flew down and sat beneath a nearby Jacaranda tree, sharing stories, laughter, and danced through the fallen leaves. And as for the tuna on Kibbie's beak, that dried and fell off. All evidence of Kibbie's stealing blew away in the wind.
